At a poorly attended, badly advertised meeting held by HHP in Castlebay recently, the organisation came under considerable criticism for their actions with regard to Barra and Vatersay Housing since they took ownership of Barra and Vatersay Housing Association houses and the Comhairle nan Eilean Houses.  Only HHP members had been informed of the meeting, no letters had been sent to tenants and little effort made to notify the public about this so called open meeting.  Only one housing meeting had been held since HHP took over the local houses, not the quarterly meetings as promised. Unknown to  everyone in Barra, HHP had also effectively removed responsibility for most aspects of housing away from the Castlebay office of CNES, removing local control, authority and responsibilities that had been in Castlebay since the establishment of  the Comhairle.

While there are a number of housing developments in the pipeline: the completion of the 3 additional homes in Cialla: a planning proposal in Castlebay:  a two stage proposal for Vatersay, HHP were informed that these new developments had been put in the pipeline by the Housing Association prior to the handover and that HHP needed to move forward, to encourage development, and to keep tenants members and the community better informed.  A further Barra meeting will be held before the end of March with HHP.
