Barra Dancers Success at the Highlands and Islands Music & Dance Festival
Congratulations to the team from the Jane Douglas School of Dance who were runners up at the Scottish Choreography Challenge in Oban at the weekend in the set theme, New York Tartan day.
In the words of the festival organisers - the Scottish Choreography Challenge is a most spectacular team event with the highest standard of highland dancing, tremendous music and fantastic costumes being enjoyed by a capacity audience at the Corran Halls. Teams of dancers compete for the prestigious title using innovative dance routines, which incorporate traditional highland dancing steps. Participants make full use of sound, lighting, costume, scenery and special effects to create a spectacle worthy of national recognition.
Teacher and choreographer Jane said "It is a huge achievement for the team. I am over the moon with the result. It's fantastic that all the hours of hard work and dedication from the girls paid off."
In 2005 a the team from the dancing school won sixth place for the Hen's March to the Midden.
Well done also to Debbie MacLean and Kristie Boyd who represented the Hebridean Islands team in the Scottish Area finals, where they competed against the very best dancers from all over Scotland and to the fifteen dancers from the dancing school aged 4 to sixteen, who competed at the Atlantis Leisure centre in the Highland Dancing competition, bringing back a hoard of medals between them.
