Progress Being made with regard to Castlebay School
The Director of Education and Children’s Services, Joan MacKinnon, and Chair of the Education Committee, Morag Munro, met with Castlebay School Parent Council at a well attended meeting on Wednesday evening. A joint press statement from CnES and the Parent Council states ‘Following a constructive and forward thinking meeting between the Director of Education and Children’s Services and Castlebay School Parent Council, a number of avenues are being pursued to resolve issues at Castlebay School following the recent HMIe follow-through report’.
Involvement of and recognition by CnES of the Parent Council’s concerns is welcomed and its is hoped that the positive outcome of the meeting lead to a spirit of partnership in addressing the concerns raised in the HMIe report. (HMIe—Her Majesty’s Inspectorate for Education).
Elected representatives, Cllr Donald Manford and Angus MacNeil MP have met with HMIe chiefs at at their headquarters in Livingstone. Angus MacNeil said, "We went to the meeting with the publicly stated aim of involving HMIe in a positive role in helping Castlebay school both maintain progress and overcome the areas of difficulty, identified by HMIe. We are pleased to report that HMIe will involve themselves in a proactive guidance roll in the early autumn outwith the report cycle. " Cllr Manford said, "It is important that the HMIe have a monitoring role in the school to build trust & confidence to ensure it is on the right course.”
