More School Closures Threatened
Eoligarry School is on the list of schools threatened with closure in Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s latest review of Educational Provision in the Western Isles.
Given that Eoligarry is a thriving School, with a role over 20 and rising over the next few years, providing an essential service to the north end of Barra, is in good condition and requiring very little investment in the fabric of the building, the news of the proposed closure has come as a major shock to the island.
Here we go again! That is the feeling in Barra. Given that Brevig School, Craigston School and Vatersay school have all closed in recent years, we as a community are justified in asking Why Barra again? There are other schools in other areas in the Western Isles which previous reviews identified for closure but are still going strong.
There will be a battle royal over the future of Eoligarry School and the community and parents will fight to retain the school for the island.
