An Island Parish
It's now be confirmed that the BBC plan to film a documentary series based on the religious life of South Uist and Barra. It will be made by the team behind the successful BBC 2 series AN ISLAND PARISH, (on Monday evenings at 7.30pm) about life on the Isles of Scilly off the western coast of Cornwall. The new 12-part series, which has been agreed with Bishop Joseph Toal, will be filmed between now and the end of next summer. Hopefully to go out on T.V in September 2010.
From time to time you'll see the film crew following Father John Paul MacKinnon as he goes about his ministry here on Barra, and they'll also be spending time with Father Roddy McAuley on South Uist, and Father Calum MacLellan on Eriskay. As well as the clergy being filmed they are also keen to meet with many more people who make up Island life. All filming will be done with the complete co-operation of all locals, so no-one needs to participate if they don't want to!
The programme will include issues, stories and characters from the wider community, so if anyone has any thoughts, ideas, or concerns, please contact Fr. John Paul, or the producer Nigel Farrell, from Tiger Aspect Productions, on 07718-913888. It certainly will promote even more the beauty and character of the Islands.
