Hebridean Communities Rally Round to help Kirsty
As we move forward towards the Christmas festivities, the thoughts of the people of Barra are constantly with young Kirsty MacInnes from Eoligarry as she undergoes treatment in Yorkhill and other Glasgow hospitals. Following a major operation in October, Kirsty is now undergoing a major course of treatment which will keep her on the mainland until summer 2010. The fundraising bingo held in Barra last week raised £1,950. Staff at Hebridean Housing Partnership throughout the Western Isles have also been involved in a wide range of fund raising activities, including a raffle which was drawn by MP Angus B MacNeil to raise a total of £4,009.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported the family through Kirsty’s recent illness. Thank you to all those who have offered their prayers, sent Mass cards, phoned, written or asked how we were on the street. Thank you to all those who have came out to see us – it’s always nice to see family and friends especially at times like these. To everyone who has offered accommodation or to carry things to and from Glasgow and have made very generous gestures in order to make our stay here more comfortable.
Special thanks go to Canon Angus, Fr Michael and Fr Bernie for offering masses for Kirsty and to all those who have offered their prayers. To Jannette and Katie Boyd whose generosity, kindness and support will always be remembered by the family. To all those have fundraised or made donations – both named and anonymous, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The monies raised will allow the family to travel in turns to be with us during Kirsty`s treatment which will be ongoing through the summer months. Thank you to The Thrift Shop, Hebridean Housing Partnership and to all those organised bingos and other events that have taken place throughout the Western Isles on Kirsty`s behalf.
Thank you to Eoligarry and Castlebay schools and to the C.N.E.S Dept. of Education who have gone out of their way to make sure that Kirsty feels closer to home. For sending recorded messages and songs and for setting up a link in Yorkhill that will allow Kirsty to take part in classes when she is fit enough and see the friends and teachers that she misses so much.
We are very proud to come from a community which shows such strong support and goodwill at every corner in such difficult times. We are truly humbled by your kindness and support.
Kirsty is currently half way through her first round of treatment and if she is fit and strong enough after New Year she will be able to come home for a few weeks and see the people she has missed – Family, Friends, Teachers and Jill (The Dog!).
There are bound to be people that we have forgot to mention, so please forgive us but know that we are eternally grateful for all your support.
God bless you all! Effie and Kirsty
