Barra MSAC Study
SNP MSP Alasdair Allan warmly welcomed a decision by the Minister for the Environment Roseanna Cunningham MSP, to carry out an economic impact study on the possible effect of an MSAC in Barra.
Dr Allan who asked the minister to undertake this study commented.
“I am pleased that the Scottish Government is showing its interested in the effects an SAC could have on Barra, even if the European commission does not.
“I wrote recently to Roseanna Cunningham pointing out that the consultation process, which exists under European regulations, does a lot of study into seals but not much into people and asked whether the Scottish Government would carry out its own research to fill this gap.
“This is a very encouraging sign that the Scottish Government is not simply taking the views of the European commission at face value, but is prepared to carry out its own independent research, I have been back in touch with Roseanna Cunningham to find out more about the scope of the economic impact study. I would join with the many people in Barra who have contacted me today in thanking the Minister for acceding to my request on this matter”.
