Emergency Medical Retrieval Service

Remote and Rural Health Services will be benefiting from the introduction of the Emergency Medical Retrieval Service which will give additional support to medical practitioners working in isolated areas.

The Emergency Medical Retrieval Service will send in the appropriate medical team whether Trauma or Paediatric etc to respond to an emergency situation. The team will then work with the patient to stabilise them and prepare them for evacuation to a mainline hospital. Working with the Scottish Air Ambulance Service the development of the ERMS  is an important new development in the support for rural health care across Scotland.

Rural healthcare training has been organised and a training event was held in Argyll. The “Working with the Retrieval Team (WWRT)” which was open to nurses and GPs from the community hospitals and isolated practices in Argyll. Barra dancers made their mark last weekend when they competed at the 25th anniversary of the Highlands and Islands Music and Dance festival in Oban. Over the years the event has developed into one of Scotland’s major arts festivals. Twelve Barra dancers competed over the weekend. Friday saw the Scottish Area Finals where the team from the Hebridean Islands who qualified at the South Uist Games competed against the best dancers representing seventeen areas in Scotland. The team got a great welcome in the Corran Halls. This is only the second year after a gap of 7 years that a team has been invited to compete.  (Finalists were Mairi MacNeil, Debbie MacLean and Kerry MacDonald, Barra, and Jennifer Whytock, Stornoway.)

On Saturday, several dancers aged 5 to 15 were placed highly in the Premier Confined to Argyll and the Western Isles and pre premier sections.

The prestigious Scottish Choreography Challenge took place in a packed Corran Halls on Saturday and Sunday. Three teams from the Jane Douglas School of Dance enjoyed performing on the huge stage. The Saturday theme was to create a dance for the Scottish entry in an imagined Eurovision Dance Contest. They danced 'Heartland' to music from Runrig.

On Sunday in the 12 and under Scottish Theme, their entry was 'The Tiree Wave Classic'. to music by Skerryvore. For the set piece of music, the 16 and unders took inspiration from the Nova Scotia International Tattoo.

Congratulation to the teams for the huge amount of effort and extra work that went in to producing their innovative and impressive performances.
