Heathbank Hotel

The Heathbank Hotel on Barra was originally built as a mission house/church around the mid 1800's. About 100 years later the building was offering accommodation as a guest house. During the making of the classic film Whisky Galore, in 1948, some of the cast stayed in Heathbank. We first opened as a hotel in 1974 and Northbay enjoyed its first licensed premises since the closing of the Old Inn decades before.

Our menu, which varies according to supplies, features the best of Island produce with an emphasis on fresh fish and shellfish which is landed daily.
A typical 3 course meal would be around £18.00.  We are open to non-residents. Booking is recommended. We also cater for small weddings and other functions such as Christmas parties and business meetings - please call to discuss your requirements.

We are situated on the main circular road.
From the Sound of Barra ferry - turn left at Ardmhor. Turn off and left at Northbay T junction. We are approximately 300 metres past the church.
Barra Airport - turn left on the main road and left at Northbay T junction. We are approximately 300 metres past the church.
Oban Ferry - turn left at the top of the pier road to reach us by the west side of the island, approx 8 miles, or turn right to reach us by the East side, approx 6 miles.

A family run hotel owned by Teresa Jenkins, Guy Adams and their three daughters. Situated on the very edge of Europe, overlooking the beautiful, wide, white sandy Tangasdale Beach, the Isle of Barra Beach Hotel suites its dramatic  environment on Barra’s Atlantic West Coast.

With its panoramic views of Halaman Bay and Ben Tangaval, Isle Of Barra Beach Hotel is ideal for relaxing and watching the sun set over the turquoise Western Ocean at the end of a perfect Hebridean day.

Since taking over in August 2008 Head Chef, George Long and the new owners have pledged to maintain and build the hotel's reputation for excellent cuisine and fine dining.  Both of the hotel's restaurants have their own style using only the best and freshest available produce sourced locally and from the Scottish mainland.

Craigard Hotel

Comfort, relaxation, good company and excellent food. All the qualities you look for in an hotel, whether you visit the Isle of Barra for leisure or business.

The Craigard Hotel is situated on the hillside directly above the small town of Castlebay, with magnificent views over Kisimul Castle and beyond to the island of Vatersay. Parking is alongside the hotel, so guests need not climb long flights of steps to reach this amazing vantage point!

In addition to comfortable bedrooms, The Craigard offers a spacious restaurant. It’s popular with local residents (always a good sign) and the menu features fresh local cuisine, including fresh local seafood. Try hand-dived scallops or creel caught lobster, which are reckoned to be much better tasting than trawled shellfish. Catch of the day gives you the opportunity to enjoy freshly landed fish - perhaps to sample succulent local monkfish, herring or mackerel.
