Clean skies, open Roads and Empty Beaches

Northbay House is the former Northbay School and Schoolhouse, built in 1882 in a quiet, sheltered hollow at the head of beautiful Loch na Obe. The house is on the island bus route, and is 15 minutes by car from the ferry terminals and from the airport.
Northbay House is recommended by the Sunday Times, the Lonely Planet Guide, the Rough Guide and Holiday Which?
and sea fishing, an indoor swimming pool and a nine hole golf course. Car and cycle hire are available, and boat trips can be taken to Eriskay (where Bonnie Prince Charlie first landed in Scotland in 1745 to reclaim the throne for the Stuarts) and to deserted Mingulay with its puffin colonies and breathtaking cliffs. The island of Barra and its people were the inspiration for Compton MacKenzie's novel “Whisky Galore”, and the classic film of the book was made on location here.
We are open for Bed & Breakfast all year, except December and January. The 4 Star standard accommodation consists of a ground floor twin-bedded room, en-suite with shower and bath (suitable for wheelchair users) and a first floor double bedroom en-suite with shower. Both bedrooms have generous hospitality trays, a radio-alarm clock, a hair-dryer and a selection of toiletries.
Breakfast is served in the dining room and we use local produce when available. Guests have access to a laundry with facilities for drying outdoor clothes and footwear. There is ample car-parking at the house. We do not offer an evening meal as the four hotels on the island provide both bar and restaurant meals, and the nearest hotel is within a half-mile of Northbay House.
