Supply Vessels

In sites of oil or gas exploration you are like to find different kinds of standby safety or supply vessels. A summary of thses vessels is listed below.
 
 

Anchor Handling Tug Supply

A vessel designed to work primarily in the Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration and Production areas. which is able to lay and retrieve the anchors used to moor the Oil and Gas Rigs, Platforms and associated units. They have very good towing capability for moving Rigs, etc.  Supply: Carry a wide range of both liquid and dry (powder) cargoes in internal storage tanks, have strengthened decks for containers etc. Some are also equipped to operate ROV's (Remote Operated Vehicles), and have the capability (in varying degrees) for Fire Fighting and Standby Vessel duties.
   

PSV:- Platform Service (or Supply) Vessel

Another vessel working primarily in the Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration and Production areas.  Specially designed to carry all the necessary equipment, material and catering supplies to enable the Rigs and Platforms to function.  Transport a wide range of both liquid and dry (powder) cargoes in internal storage tanks and strengthened decks for carrying containers, drill pipes and other heavy equipment.  Some have the capability (in varying degrees) for Towing and Fire Fighting. 
   

RORO: Roll on Roll off.

A Freight carrying ferry that is loaded and unloaded via ramps connecting the vessel with the dockside, enabling vehicles and or trailers to be driven on and off.
   

Standby:- Standby Vessels (Standing By)

Another vessel working in the Offshore Oil and Gas Exploration and Production areas. Either specially built or converted (mainly Fishing Trawlers) to act as a 'Safety Ship' to the Rigs and Platforms.  Carry a wide range of safety and recovery equipment including - fast recovery boats, rescue baskets and scrambling nets.  In an emergency they can perform fast evacuation of the rigs and recover people from the water. Cater for large numbers of rescued personal (as many as 300), have hospital facilities and medically trained crew members. Clear deck area for helicopter winching and have fire fighting capability.
