Southend 7  -  Barra 2

Barra F.C. played their first league game in two years on Sunday in atrocious conditions, against no less than the current league champions Southend.

Barra produced a solid performance in the first half and deservedly took the lead on the half hour mark with a spectacular (or was that speculative) long range effort from Charlie Donnelly. Southend came back into the game towards the end of the half and went in 2-1 up at half-time. In the second half a combination of injuries and some very debatable refereeing decisions took their toll on the Barra side and all they had to show for their tremendous effort was a Roddy MacInnes goal late in the game.

This was a good performance by Barra and one they can build on. Man of the Match was Duncan Campbell, but a special mention must go to Jaz MacLean who played in goals in the absence of a recognised keeper and did well.
