A Children’s Centre for Barra & Vatersay
The
sun was shining in Barra on September 18th 2001.
The children, parents and Committee met on site to witness
Carol MacNeil (playgroup leader for the last 18 years), along with the
children, officially marking the beginning of the works.
This was followed by a speech by Margaret MacLean (Chair). A small
party was held for the children afterwards, courtesy of the appointed contractor
MacInnes Bros. Ltd from Uist.

The
overall design of the building is to ensure a safe and secure environment for
the children. Disabled access is
throughout ensuring easy wheelchair access to each individual room. Access to the
main class-room areas will be through security doors.
Two W.C. facilities are also located in this area to ensure the children
have all the necessary facilities around them without leaving their
boundaries. The Café, Soft play and offices are at the opposite side
of the building. The Cafe will be open for the public - so parents
- have a coffee in peace and let the children play in the facilities
provided for them!!
